- Because of the uniqueness of the program, Germantown High School and the Poplar Pike Playhouse have received numerous fine arts awards including the Rockefeller Brothers Fund $10,000 Arts in Education Award, the Highwire Magazine Top 100 Schools Award, the Governor's 10 Great Schools Award, and four mainstage invitations to perform at the International Thespian Theatre Arts Festival.
- The chairman of the GHS Fine Arts Department, Frank Bluestein, has received numerous national recognitions. He is the 1996-97 Disney/McDonalds Performing Arts Teacher of the Year and the 1994 TN State Teacher of the Year. In 1998, USA Today named Mr. Bluestein as one of the top 40 teachers in the United States.
- GHS-TV has received Emmy and Cable ACE Award nominations, eight regional student Emmys, and in 2004 was one of only six high schools in the nation to be honored with a national student Emmy Award of Excellence. The station has also won over eighty first place national Hometown Video U.S.A. Awards and has been named 6 times as the Best Cable Television Educational and Community Access Station in the United States in 2005, 2003, 2002, 2001, 1997 and 1992 by the Alliance for Community Media.
