Three Little Heroes to the Rescue
April 26, 2019
The Poplar Pike Playhouse is back this spring with a new children’s play that will huff and puff and blow your...socks off. “Three Little Heroes to the Rescue” is a unique take on the classic tale of the Three Little Pigs. However, instead of pigs, it tells the story of three young kids who happen to be super heroes, but haven’t quite learned the scope of their powers. When an evil villain comes to town, the three heroes each try to defeat the evil villain on their own. However, by the end of the show, they discover that their powers fully activate when they work together as one.
“You can’t defeat an evil by yourself,” says theatre teacher Jeff White. “You really need the help of others and I feel that this play highlights the lesson of not doing everything on your own.”
Over the past several months, White has worked with upper level theatre students in playwrighting workshops to develop the original script suited for children of all ages. White says, “We started with the idea of the Three Little Pigs, but to me, this feels more like an original play and not an adaptation of a fairytale.”
Student director and playwright, Rachel Christopherson, shares her thoughts on the writing process, “We only went through a few drafts because we all had the same idea of how we wanted it to be. There was some difficulty with one particular part in the show, but other than that, it was a pretty fluid process.”
Bring your family to join these three little heroes to save the day! “Three Little Heroes to the Rescue” will have a free public showing on Saturday, May 4th at 2:00 pm at the Poplar Pike Playhouse on the Germantown High School campus. The playwrighting workshop was made possible in part by the Poplar Pike Arts Guild and the GPAC Education Fund. If you would like to have the cast of “Three Little Heroes to the Rescue” visit your elementary school for a private performance, email Jeff White at firstname.lastname@example.org.
