Christmas Cheer Runs Amuck at the Poplar Pike Playhouse!

The Poplar Pike Playhouse kicks off its fall season with the Memphis-area debut of Christopher Durang’s outrageously funny Mrs. Bob Cratchit’s Wild Christmas Binge. As only he can, master playwright Durang reimagines the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol, and the results are nothing short of hilarious. The show opens November 3rd and runs through November 19th.

This wacky seasonal tale turns Dickens upside down and throws in generous doses of nonsense and absurdity for good measure. Add to the mix distorted portions of Oliver Twist, It’s a Wonderful Life, Gift of the Magi, and Touched by an Angel and what you have is a giant bowl of Christmas cheer, sprinkled with a dash of “bah humbug!” With characters including the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, who may or may not have a yule-tide neurological disorder; the sassy, soulful Ghost of Christmas Past, Present, and Still to Come; and the original “desperate housewife” Mrs. Cratchit, the only logical outcome is side-splitting laughter! Critics have called it “fiendishly funny.” Poplar Pike Playhouse audiences are sure to find it just the right pre-holiday treat.

The cast includes Vicki Beall, Boomer Brigman, Stacey Cotham, Stuart Downing, Shari Drury, Cassie Farrier, Kristina Hanford, Beth Hoag, Calvin Howard, Ray Howard, Katya Hutchinson-Tiner, Jesse Jones, Lauren Levins, Deven McKay, Brittany Mickens, Courtney Mickens, Archie Mitchell, Emmi Ramey, Jonhathon Smith, Jacob Strong, Ryan Sweeney, Tucker Wade, Patrick Warren, Brandon Winfrey.

The directorial staff is lead by Greg Krosnes. The scenic designer is Mary K. VanGieson. The costume designers are Casey Smith and Nicole McClanahan, and the graphic designer and scenic artist is Lynette Gilbert. Ernest Newbern is the makeup designer, and the properties designer is Shirley Evans. Joseph Haslwanter and Jack House are the technical directors. Courtney Smith is the costume and properties coordinator, the house coordinator is Allison Rogers, and the business manager is Gail Ridenhour. Frank Bluestein is the producing director.
The corporate sponsor for this production is Germantown Association, Inc.; Board of Directors members are Paul Cardelli, Bobby Lanier, Thane Smith, and George Walters.
