The Wiz - February 21 - March 9, 2013

The Wiz follows Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion on their magical journey down the Yellow Brick Road. The Wiz opened on Broadway to wide acclaim in 1974, winning seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. That score is what helps set The Wiz apart from the classic tale of Oz. This version features jazzy music and lyrics from Tony Award winning composer Charlie Smalls. The Broadway version of The Wiz even spawned a movie featuring Michael Jackson, Diana Ross and Richard Pryor.

A production of The Wiz was originally produced at the Poplar Pike Playhouse in 1982 and starred Susan Marshall as Dorothy. Susan has gone on to become one of the most respected vocalists in Memphis and nation-wide. She has appeared with a variety of leading industry artists including Lynyrd Skynyrd and Lenny Kravitz.
